January Training Series: Preparation for Dogwood 100: 100 miles or 100K (April 14th)
Begins Saturday January 6, 1st and 4th Saturday of the month, rides will range from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours+(25 to 70 miles; 16-18 mph pace), gradually building into the longer ride as fitness progresses, 40 degree rule (If temperature is 40 or below no ride;
above 40 we ride).
Cold days will result in shorter rides, longer rides on warmer days within reason for time of year fitness. Rides will include multiple loops initially, that pass within a few miles of starting point so anyone wanting/needing to return early may do so.
Rides will progress toward specific goals to improve fitness including technique, tempo sets, strength work, etc. Helpful advice on training for the following week, bike maintenance, etc.
will be available during rides.
Ride start times will usually be between
day’s course and agenda.

ERC will be jointly holding the inaugural Dirt, Sweat, and Gears 12 Hour Mountain Bike Race -www.dirtsweatandgears.com on April 28 with Fayetteville Dodge Chrysler Jeep as the Title Sponsor. This race is part of the new 2007 USAC-MTB National Ultra Endurance Calendar and will be the Southeast Regional Championship for 12 hr races. This will be a great boost for the club and our community as it has attracted some top professional riders to come and compete for the $10,000 purse. In addition to the national exposure, regional riders will compete against the clock and themselves for trophies, prizes and best of all bragging rights. There are categories from Solo to 6-10 person teams with a 4 person or 5 person co-ed being the most popular. Please consider volunteering or racing that weekend. It will be a weekend
that you willnever forget.
